West Brom: Jobi McAnuff and Rob Earnshaw react to Daryl Dike incident v Ipswich Town
West Brom striker Daryl Dike was “absolutely distraught” having picked up another injury during the Baggies’ clash with Ipswich Town, according to Jobi McAnuff and Rob Earnshaw.
Carlos Corberan’s side took a point against the Tractor Boys at Portman Road on Saturday (10 February) but the 2-2 draw was overshadowed by another disappointing moment for Dike in the second half.
The United States striker went down only 10 minutes after entering the field as a substitute with what looked like another major injury and McAnuff confirmed that the Baggies forward was “in pieces” as he left the playing field.
Speaking on Sky Sports Main Event on Saturday (10 February, 14:59) he said: “He was absolutely distraught, and we saw him come over to not far from where we were sitting and he was absolutely in pieces.
“I think when you work so hard to get back after a long injury you want to get back and get yourself right, which he’s not been able to do at any stage.
“I think that actually fit in today with what we said about not being able to get up the pitch, he’d have been a huge part of that just to relieve some of that pressure and help his team. He obviously feels a responsibility to the team because when you are injured you don’t feel like you are adding any value.
“Really disappointed to see him in that state.”
Earnshaw agreed saying: “Feel for him a lot because it’s so hard. The worst part about being a footballer is when you’ve been injured, you’re coming back, then a recurrence or a different injury because I think he pulled his calf there.
“It’s like why me? You’re just in your own world there.”
West Brom will be ‘distraught’ to lose key man Daryl Dike
While most West Brom supporters’ thoughts at the moment will be with their star striker after he picked up another major injury, they will also be distraught that they have lost another key man for the playoff push.

Corberan hasn’t been blessed with attacking options this season, with Dike and Josh Maja spending much of the season on the sidelines, leaving Brandon Thomas-Asante as the only recognised striking option at The Hawthorns.
Hopefully, Dike’s injury may not be as bad as first feared, but the striker’s reaction showed that he felt something major had happened and his teammates were equally as distraught.
But until then, Corberan is going to have to find a way to use the tools at his disposal to try and continue West Brom’s playoff push.
