West Brom: US media reacts to latest Daryl Dike injury blow in showdown v Ipswich Town
Media outlets from the United States have been reacting after West Brom forward Daryl Dike suffered yet another injury blow during the Baggies’ draw with Ipswich Town.
The Albion striker was forced off the field in Saturday’s (10 February) 2-2 draw at Portman Road only ten minutes after coming on as a second-half substitute with what Carlos Corberan has confirmed as another Achilles injury.
Dike, who has been capped 10 times by the USMNT has received messages of support from the entire footballing world and the US media have been reacting to the 23-year-old’s latest injury.
Pro Soccer Wire (10 February), an outlet run by USA Today, wrote on its website: “If it wasn’t for bad luck, Daryl Dike would have no luck whatsoever. Since joining West Brom from Orlando City in January 2022, Dike has been limited to just 32 total appearances.”
Similarly, Fox Sports’ website (10 February) focused on the fact that Dike was injured “again” having only recently recovered from a nine-month injury layoff this season while also admitting it remains unknown how long the forward will be out for.
Fox Sports pundit Stu Holden, who played as a midfielder for Bolton and the States, said via his personal X account: “Oh man, heartbroken for Daryl Dike. Has been back for five games from his Achilles rupture and [was] forced off after 10 minutes with what sounds like a bad injury.
“Hoping for the best, just brutal for the 23-year-old American.”
Daryl Dike and West Brom surrounded by bad luck
West Brom supporters and Dike must genuinely be wondering what they have done to deserve this recent run of bad luck as it seems no matter what the Baggies forward does, he ends up back on the treatment table again.
The Albion striker always gives his all whenever he is on the pitch. While that makes him so effective on the field, it also means that he always leaves himself open to picking up injuries whenever he throws himself into challenges.

Carlos Corberan is running out of forward options at The Hawthorns at the moment, with Dike joining Josh Maja and Matt Phillips on the sidelines. The West Brom boss will be looking forward to getting Grady Diangana back from the African Cup of Nations.
Hopefully, Dike’s latest injury won’t be as bad as initially feared and the Baggies will be able to get their star forward back on the playing field sooner rather than later, but the initial signs don’t look good.
