West Brom: Daryl Dike now ruled out until end of 2024 as surgery decision made
West Brom striker Daryl Dike has now been ruled out of action until the end of 2024, the club have confirmed.
The Baggies announced on their website on Monday afternoon (12 February) that the American international has ruptured the Achilles on his left leg – the opposite of the one he suffered last season, which ruled him until last month.
Dike will now undergo surgery on the issue followed by a period of rehabilitation, with the club confirming that he will be out until the end of the year.
Damaging news for Daryl Dike and West Brom as a whole
The club and supporters were rocked by the sight of the frontman being carted off the Portman Road turf by a golf buggy stretcher just 10 minutes after his introduction in the 2-2 draw against Ipswich.
The striker understandably left the pitch in tears given he’d just only returned from a long injury layoff on the opposite leg, which occurred last April and this just caps off an unlucky and devastating year for the talented striker.
Dike has already been overwhelmed by the amount of support he’s received from fans and teammates in the last couple of days and given what he’s just gone through, no one can feel anything but sorry for him.
He is a tremendous character on and off the pitch for West Brom and certainly doesn’t deserve yet another long-term injury blow so soon after recovering from one.
When he scored in the FA Cup clash against Aldershot, fans may well have been thinking that the American can now enjoy a huge upturn in form and fortune in the West Midlands but weeks on and he’s facing another nightmare.
Hopefully this setback won’t derail the confidence and belief he has in his career and future prospects because there is a serious talent in Dike and, as West Brom provide him with all the care he needs, hopefully he’ll come back a much better player than ever.
