West Brom: Peter Odemwingie sends ‘remember that’ message to Wolves fans
Peter Odemwingie delighted West Brom fans as he aimed a cheeky dig at rivals Wolves with a video posted online on Monday (12 February).
The Baggies may have lost 2-0 to their fierce rivals in the FA Cup fourth round on 28 January but today marks the 12-year anniversary of a 5-1 rout of Wolves at Molineux, a match in which Odemwingie scored a hat-trick to write himself into Baggies folklore.
Memories of that day will live fresh in the memories of Baggies fans, while Wolves would have been doing all they can to forget it, but Odemwingie is determined to ensure they keep that result in mind.
As shared by DaysSinceWolves on X: “Two is not five,” Odemwingie told Wolves fans with a huge grin on his face, “Enjoy yourselves now but remember that. Two is not five.”
West Brom will always have that over Wolves
The recent 2-0 victory for a visiting Wolves side at The Hawthorns may have given them bragging rights in the short term, although it was almost immediately overshadowed by the actions of the fans on that day, which led to widespread condemnation.
That result has been and will be quickly forgotten by all involved. The “Molineux Massacre”, as it has been dubbed, will not be allowed to fade from the minds of the supporters for a long time yet.
Having gone into half-time at 1-1, the game was finely poised, before a second-half double from Odemwingie to complete his treble, alongside goals from Jonas Olsson and Keith Andrews made it a special day for the travelling support.
A BBC report from that day labelled the result “astounding” as, at the time, it had plunged Wolves into the relegation zone while West Brom moved eight points clear of the drop.
Odemwingie has been vocal recently in his support of the Baggies, often taking digs at Wolves in the process.
