West Brom: Adrian Goldberg questions ‘weird’ takeover development at The Hawthorns

Adrian Goldberg has questioned the “weird” recent West Brom takeover news regarding Alex Hearn and Chris Farnell.

BBC Sport reported on 29 January that Farnell and Hearn had made a renewed attempt to buy a minority stake in the club.

The pair were said to have shared proof of funds totalling £110million that showed they could afford the investment.

However, things have gone quiet on that front as Shilen Patel edges closer to completing a takeover at The Hawthorns.

Speaking on The Liquidator podcast [11 February, 24m 32s], Goldberg said: “It does appear that the Alex Hearn and Chris Farnell consortium has gone away.

“Indeed, people have suggested to me that they never formally made a bid. This is weird. The BBC reported a couple of weeks ago that Hearn and Farnell had shown the Football League evidence of a £110m funding.

“But it appears they have never actually made a bid for West Bromwich Albion. What’s their game? How weird.”

West Brom fans anxiously awaiting takeover confirmation

The reason West Brom fans are not getting too ahead of themselves is because of the constant leaks – assuming that is the case – regarding the whole takeover scenario.

Right now, it looks as though American businessman Patel is in a position to take over and bring an end to the Guochuan Lai tenure – something that is long overdue.

Until there is any sort of official confirmation, however, nobody knows exactly how far down the line we are with regards to a takeover.

West Brom
Guochuan Lai was heavily criticised during his time at West Brom.

As we saw with the Farnell and Hearn story, certain developments are reported and ultimately come to little.

It has been mentioned that Hearn is an Aston Villa fan, so having him anywhere near The Hawthorns was never going to go down well with supporters.

The sooner Patel can finalise a deal, the better for everyone concerned.

In other West Brom news, Richard Keys and Andy Gray disagreed over Albion’s result against Ipswich Town.
