West Brom: Tony Brown rages at ‘woeful’ Conor Townsend after what he did in 2-0 win v Cardiff
West Brom defender Conor Townsend was slammed by Tony Brown for a “woeful” piece of decision making during the match with Cardiff City at The Hawthorns.
Townsend failed to pick out a team-mate from a good position at a point when Cardiff were knocking on the door for an equaliser in Tuesday’s (13 February) Championship clash.
The full-back was in space and could have taken the ball further in what proved to be a wasteful moment for Albion, albeit they went on to win 2-0.
“He should have kept going himself,” Brown said on BBC Radio WM [13 February, 9:39pm]. “He could have driven into the box.
“There was nobody with him so he could have gone into the six-yard box and pulled it back. It was a woeful cross from that position.”
West Brom get the job done against Cardiff City
Townsend really should have been picking out a team-mate from his cross, but in the end it did not come back to haunt Albion.
The Baggies saw off Cardiff, who put up a much better fist of things in the second half, thanks to goals from January signings Mikey Johnston and Andi Weimann.
Had Cardiff managed to find an equaliser between those two goals, this incident would have been looked back on come full-time.

Townsend did not have the best of games, but nor did too many West Brom players. Despite that, they still kept their impressive form going.
The 30-year-old has been a regular pick for Carlos Corberan this season and will continue to be so as we fast approach the business end of the campaign.
Every player is entitled to make a mistake every now and then, and in this instance it had no impact on the final outcome.
