Carlos Corberan’s men were looking to strengthen their position in the Championship playoffs when they took on the Welsh club at The Hawthorns and made a terrific start to the match.

The Baggies took the lead after just 28 seconds through Johnston’s first goal for the club since joining on loan from Celtic in January.

Dike, who suffered an Achilles tendon injury against Ipswich Town on Saturday (10 February) and is now out for the rest of the season (official West Brom website, 12 February) shared his instant reaction on his Instagram account (13 February).

The American international wrote: “Love this team.”

Daryl Dike shows his support for West Brom despite injury heartbreak

It really is a heartbreaking situation for Dike and West Brom, with both parties gutted by this latest injury blow.

The player himself has obviously been through a very hard time lately, having only just returned to the pitch following a lengthy absence for an Achilles injury.

However, he was still happy enough to support his teammates as they took an early lead against Cardiff City.

Despite the latest blow, he’s just experienced, Dike still has the joy to celebrate with his West Brom teammates which goes to show his character and mentality.

The Hawthorns club have confirmed that a timescale of the end of 2024 has been put in place for Dike, who needs surgery and a period of rehabilitation after rupturing his left Achilles.

And judging by this reaction to the goal, Dike will certainly be in a promising mood as he kicks off his rehabilitation again.

He will have been forgiven for going into his shell after the injury setback but his happiness at Johnston’s first goal just shows the kind of togetherness Corberan has fostered at The Hawthorns.

In other West Brom news, fans will be breathing a huge sigh of relief after a managerial update at Crystal Palace as The Eagles seek a potential replacement for Roy Hodgson.
