Carlos Corberan has hailed the "quality" of Celtic loan man Mikey Johnston after West Brom won 2-0 over Cardiff City at The Hawthorns.

The Baggies secured another three points with their victory over the Bluebirds in Tuesday’s [13 February] Championship clash

Johnston scored after less than a minute to help his new side boost their promotion hopes.

“Mikey is a player that offers us a lot of possibilities,” Corberan told the official club website [13 February]. “He is a winger who can play wider than he played today, but at the same time he can play more as a playmaker.

“One of the key things we insist to him, is that he arrives in the box because he’s a player with a very good finish.

“That was the action of the goal, but in general he was helping the team a lot be patient, to switch the side of attack, because he’s someone with a lot of game understanding and quality.”

Johnston is looking like a shrewd signing for West Brom. He linked up with the Baggies in the January transfer window from Celtic and has caught the eye so far.

The 24-year-old, who is a Republic of Ireland international with eight caps under his belt, has risen up through the academy ranks of his parent club and has made 92 appearances for them to date, finding the net on 13 occasions.

However, his career at Celtic Park has stalled somewhat over recent times, hence why he was allowed to depart this winter.
