West Brom: Tony Brown stunned by ‘unbelievable’ Cardiff City moment at The Hawthorns

By Harry Mail

Tony Brown believes West Brom were fortunate after Kion Etete’s “unbelievable miss” during their 2-0 win over Cardiff City.

Etete squandered a golden chance to equalise for the Bluebirds during Tuesday’s (13 February) Championship clash when the Albion were only one goal ahead.

West Brom ran out comfortable winners in the end after goals by January recruits Mikey Johnston and Andi Weimannm who are on loan from Celtic and Bristol City respectively.

However, it could have been less comfortable if Etete had taken his opportunity. “What an opportunity there for Cardiff,” Brown said on BBC Radio WM [13 February, 9.25pm]. “Albion’s got out of jail there, it should be one each, [it’s an] unbelievable miss.

“Etete has got to score there. [Aaron] Ramsey is dictating the play. He’s making those little runs. I said before the game started that he is a dangerous player. Somebody has got to stay with him, somebody has got to pick him up.”

West Brom let off the hook by Kion Etete’s miss

You need good fortune at times when you are pushing for promotion and West Brom certainly got that with Etete’s miss.

The 22-year-old, who joined Cardiff from Tottenham in 2022, scored only three goals throughout the whole of his first year with the Welsh club and has only managed to find the net twice in the league so far in this campaign.

Carlos Corberan’s side showed their ability to grind out the result which is the main thing at this stage of the season.

The Baggies will also be pleased that two of their winter additions were on the scoresheet too.

Celtic loan man Johnstone found the net after just a minute. The Ireland international has injected more pace and power into West Brom’s ranks and has looked sharp so far.

Weimann, on the other hand, has brought in a lot of experience and has scored two in his first three outings which will boost his confidence.
