West Brom return mooted for former Hawthorns player in behind-the-scenes role with Shilen Patel

West Brom should bring a former player back to the club in a behind-the-scenes role as part of the takeover, according to Chris Lepkowski.

The Baggies are set to finally be taken over after it was announced via the club’s official website on 15 February that Bilkul Football WBA, who are owned by Florida-based entrepreneur Shilen Patel and his father Dr Kiran C. Patel, have agreed to buy an 87.8 per cent stake in WBA Group Limited, the parent company of the Albion.

Writing via his personal X account (15 February), Lepkowski, who previously shared some concerns about the takeover, detailed that “Albion people” must now be brought into the club.

He went on to add, “Also, by this I mean people who picked out the likes of Yacob, Dorrans, Mulumbu, Olsson, etc… the leg men.

“There are people in senior roles at clubs elsewhere who would come back to WBA tomorrow if they could. They bought into the club a decade or so ago. They would return.”

West Brom must rebuild as Shilen Patel agrees takeover deal

As exciting as this takeover news is, this is only the beginning of the hard work at The Hawthorns.

Every West Brom supporter was keen for new ownership after the disaster which was the Guochuan Lai era. With zero investment, tons of debt and relegation from the Premier League, it hasn’t been a positive eight years at the club.

However, while this takeover promises an exciting new era, there is no guarantee it will go according to plan, and Patel must make sure to get decisions right.

That is why it is hard to disagree with Lepkowski. People with an understanding of what it means to be connected with West Brom must be brought into the club.

Having a group of people with a shared passion for the club all pulling in the same direction will only help the takeover process to be completed smoothly and will lead to plenty of positive results in the long term.

In other West Brom news, a double Southampton injury update has emerged ahead of the clash between the Baggies and the Saints on Friday 17 February.
