Journalist rages at ‘Stupid’ FA rule after what happened in West Brom loss v Southampton

Justin Allen has labelled an FA rule “stupid” after Carlos Corberan was banned from speaking to the media after West Brom lost to Southampton.

The Baggies boss was shown a red card after just six minutes for touching the ball while it was in-play, after he thought it had gone out of bounds.

But due to the red card he was then banned from doing post-match media duties too, which The Sun journalist described as making no sense at all on his personal Twitter account (17 February).

“Unfortunately for him it was literally kissing the touchline and the rules state that he has to go,” he said.

“He was banished to the stands and he wasn’t even allowed to do any post-match media which I thought was stupid considering he was allowed to talk to his players in the dressing room afterward. So that doesn’t really make any sense does it at all?”

Stupid decisions cost West Brom

Whether the manager is allowed to speak to the press or not is of no concern to the fans really, but they’ll be more worried by the silly decisions in the game.

The manager shouldn’t be touching the ball and getting himself sent off, but also the officials should apply common sense and realise he didn’t effect the game in any way and he just made a mistake.

Not having Corberan on the touchline for the whole game no doubt made it an even tougher task, and then some poor defending and an overall sloppy performance meant Southampton were never really tested.

The FA are aways keen to apply their stupid rules like booking players for taking their shirt off or kicking the ball away, but when big decisions like offsides or handballs (like the first-half penalty decision) are wrong clubs are just expected to accept it and move on.

There is plenty of work for this team to do to earn promotion but the fact they are in the mix at all is due to Corberan’s brilliance so he can be cut a bit of slack on this one. He’s human after all.
