West Brom: Injury update emerges on Andi Weimann post Southampton loss

West Brom striker Andi Weimann must have had a knock and that’s why he wasn’t brought off the bench against Southampton, according to Lewis Cox.

The Express and Star journalist took to Twitter to share his bemusement at not bringing on the January signing as Carlos Corberan watched his side lose 2-0 to the Saints at Hawthorns on 16 February.

As Corberan was sent off, he could not attend the post-match press conference so no questions were asked about the 32-year-old.

Via Twitter, Cox wrote: “Didn’t get BTA off at all. Weimann must have a knock else he’d be on. But didn’t get the first one. Or Wallace and Johnston both off either really.”

West Brom missed the trick with their substitutions

Weimann has a recent track record of making immediate impacts off the bench, suggesting his not being brought on could be due to an injury.

Brandon Thomas-Asante’s underwhelming performance reinforces the notion that Weimann should be considered as a replacement in the starting lineup.

His ability to influence games from the bench highlights his value to the team but he can surely do something from the start as well.

Moreover, Mikey Johnston’s substitution raises questions about the manager’s decision-making.

If Johnston was performing well, removing him could be considered a questionable move and these peculiar decisions hint at possible tactical adjustments or concerns over the fitness of some players in the squad.

Hopefully, Weimann is not severely injured and he’s available for the next game as Corberan knows that the chances of securing a play-off spot will reduce if he doesn’t have his best players fit.
