West Brom loanee Zac Ashworth is back-page news after what happened at Bolton Wanderers

West Brom loanee Zac Ashworth made the back pages after winning January’s Sky Bet League One Goal of the Month award.

The Football League Paper reported about the honour for the Bolton Wanderers defender in its print edition [back page, 18 February].

Ashworth netted his first EFL goal in the victory at Carlisle United at the end of January, with Bolton winning the match 4-1.

“The 21-year-old, on loan from West Brom, set the Trotters on their way to a 4-1 win at Carlisle when he lobbed Josh Sheehan’s superbly flighted long pass over keeper Harry Lewis on the volley,” according to the Football League Paper.

West Brom are going well in the Championship, even with their 2-0 defeat at home to Southampton on Friday (16 February).

They currently occupy fifth place in the league table, and have the chance to recover from that loss to the Saints when they travel to Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday (20 February).

Carlos Corberan let himself down with an early red card against Southampton, but nobody can complain about the superb job that the boss has done at The Hawthorns.

And one player that he could turn to in the near future is young defender Ashworth, with the 21-year-old doing a fine job at Bolton.

His first EFL goal, the opener against Carlisle, was immediately followed by another in the draw with Barnsley, with Ashworth scoring his club’s only goal in the 1-1 stalemate at the beginning of February.

Along with his goalscoring, the player’s versatility has been on display, with the youngster adopting a more attacking role at his temporary club.
