West Brom have sent their best wishes to former manager Tony Mowbray after it was announced he was temporarily stepping down at Birmingham City on health grounds.

The Baggies responded via Twitter on 19 February after the Blues revealed the 60-year-old is set to be away for a period of six to eight weeks for medical treatment.

Mowbray has only been in charge for around six weeks at St. Andrew's after he took over from the disastrous Wayne Rooney spell in charge, signing a two-and-a-half year deal which began on 8 January.

He spent just under three years at The Hawthorns between 2006 and 2009 and is seen as one of the most successful Albion bosses in recent times.

West Brom react to Tony Mowbray news after Roy Hodgson scare

It was only Saturday when Mowbray appeared to be enjoying himself while explaining his love of Revels [via Twitter, 17 February] after getting a 2-1 win over former side Sunderland.

So the news that he is stepping down for now, and according to The Mirror not expected back in the dug out before the end of the season, is sudden and obviously a concern.

It comes just days after Crystal Palace manager, and another former Hawthorns boss, Roy Hodgson was taken to hospital after the 76-year-old was taken ill during training, with the Premier League side subsequently telling the Daily Mail on 18 February that he was "feeling better".

Carlos Corberan's excellent recent work at The Hawthorns, notwithstanding the disappointing defeat at home to Southampton, has made the Spaniard the best West Brom boss since his Birmingham opposite number over a decade ago, and why so many fear suggestions he could be moved on.

Of course everyone will hope that Mowbray is soon feeling better himself, having improved the fortunes over at the Baggies' rivals after being surprisingly let go at the Stadium of Light in December.
