West Brom: Andy Johnson blown away by what ‘fantastic’ Mikey Johnston did v Plymouth Argyle

West Brom winger Mikey Johnston left Andy Johnson wowed with his “fantastic” strike in the Championship win over Plymouth Argyle.

Carlos Corberan’s side got back to winning ways with an excellent 3-0 win at Home Park on Tuesday (20 February) with goals from Cedric Kipre and Tom Fellows coming either side of a screamer from Celtic loanee Johnston.

The 24-year-old expertly cut in from the left flank before curling an excellent effort past Connor Hazard in the Argyle net in a moment of magic that left former Albion star Johnson stunned on commentary.

Speaking on WBA TV on Tuesday (20 February, 21:21) he said: “There it is! He never had a lot of options but he had a lot to do. People have said about his end product but there’s a little bit of end product for you, top bins.

“Have some of that. Fantastic, fantastic goal, he makes it out of nothing and makes it himself, fantastic strike.”

Can West Brom secure Mikey Johnston permanently?

West Brom and Carlos Corberan needed to add to their forward line in the January transfer window to try and bolster their chances of finishing in the playoff places and in Johnston they seem to have done exactly that.

The Celtic loanee has hit the ground running since making the switch to The Hawthorns last month and his goal on Tuesday night showed that he is capable of a moment of magic that could define the playoff race this season.

Carlos Corberan has been praised for the job he’s done at West Brom

Corberan’s side could need a moment like that in a playoff clash if they manage to finish in the top six this term and their January business has given them the best chance of making a return to the Premier League this season.

Hopefully, he can keep leaving pundits and commentators stunned from now until the end of the season and if he maintains this form, the Baggies will have to consider a permanent transfer when the summer window opens.
