Brandon Thomas-Asante injury update shared live on BBC WM in West Brom win v Plymouth Argyle
Steve Hermon has shared details on the injury that ruled West Brom forward Brandon Thomas-Asante out of the game with Plymouth Argyle.
Thomas-Asante was not part of the matchday squad for Tuesday’s (20 February) 3-0 victory at Home Park because of a hamstring issue.
It is just the third Championship game the 25-year-old has missed for West Brom this season, having been a regular under Carlos Corberan.
Speaking on BBC WM [20 February, 7:41pm], Hermon said: “I’m told that the Thomas-Asante injury is not a serious one. There’s no timeline put on that but it’s not long term.”
Brandon Thomas-Asante leads West Brom scoring charts
Thomas-Asante was taken off at half-time in the 2-0 loss to Southampton last time out, with that his sixth successive game without a goal.
He still has a team-leading nine league goals for the campaign, though, and being without Thomas-Asante on the South Coast was considered a blow.
However, after a pretty mundane first half, Albion clicked into gear and put on a second-half masterclass at Home Park.
Cedric Kipre opened the scoring with a close-range finish, while Mikey Johnstone then doubled the scoring with a sublime effort.
Fellow attacker Tom Fellows added a third from another tap-in to put the cherry on top of the cake in a pretty emphatic victory.
Andi Weimann had some promising moments without converting in Thomas-Asante’s place, and it may be he retains his spot for the next game.
If Thomas-Asante is going to be out for any length of time, even if only for a game or two, this performance offers hope that others will step up.
They key is that BTA is fit and firing come the end of the campaign, because it is looking increasingly like the Baggies will be in the play-offs.
