West Brom: Carlton Palmer hits out at Carlos Corberan reports after takeover
Carlton Palmer has hit out at Shilen Patel shortly after his takeover of West Brom, insisting the decision to possibly get rid of Carlos Corberan would be an own goal.
The former Baggies man shared that the takeover will come as great news for the fans of the club and the boss, but rumours have been swirling that Patel could bring in a new manager.
Palmer warned against any decision to do just that, with Corberan having done “fantastically” since taking over at The Hawthorns, with Albion currently in the playoff places.
Speaking to Football League World [21 February], Palmer insisted: “It’s great news for the club and the fans, but also for Carlos Corberan, who has done fantastically well this season, as Albion currently sit in the playoffs.
“I’m hoping that the manager will remain at the club. He’s done really well and the fans have taken him to heart. But it was rumoured that Patel would bring in his own man. That would be a shame and an own goal with the supporters from the start of his reign.
“Give the manager a chance, he’s earned the right with what he’s done so far.”
Will Carlos Corberan be sacked by Shilen Patel?
These types of rumours always seem to emerge when a new owner comes into a club, talk of a fresh start and bringing in a new manager to make their mark on the club is always in the news, but in this case, it cannot happen.
The bond Corberan has built with the fans means if he were to leave, the decision would almost certainly be met with anger and would be a quick way for the new owner to turn the fans against him.
Given the work the boss has done at The Hawthorns since his arrival, the thought of him being let go is one that terrifies Albion fans. The relationship he has with the fans has played just as big a part in his success as the results on the pitch.

With Albion currently in the playoff places despite a turbulent season off the field, Corberan has received widespread praise for his management, and to replace him at this stage would be madness.
