West Brom: Mikey Johnston must start v Hull after ‘unbelievable’ 100% performance
Carlos Corberan must name Mikey Johnston in his starting line-up for the Championship clash against Hull City on 24 February after his “unbelievable” performances of late.
The Celtic loanee has started just two of the five games he has appeared in since arriving at The Hawthorns, but with two goals in his last three appearances, he has earned his place.
Given the injury blow to John Swift, who was taken off after 65 minutes against Plymouth, a spot may now open up in the starting XI for Johnston to make his mark.
Commentating live for BBC Radio WM, Tony Brown gushed over the winger, sharing: “He’s done everything right, he’s got it on the left-hand side, he’s come into the box, he’s got it on his right foot and he’s released an unstoppable strike straight in the top corner.
“No chance for the Plymouth goalkeeper. Brilliant play from Johnston, absolutely brilliant. Unbelievable.”
Mikey Johnston should start for West Brom v Hull
In that goalscoring display against Plymouth, Johnston showed more than enough in just 19 minutes of football to warrant a start. A 100 per cent dribble success rate allowed him to set up one key pass and draw one foul. [Sofascore]
His impact going forward was made clear by the goal, dribble success and key pass, but his work off the ball will also have pleased his boss as the winger recorded a 100 per cent duel success rate both on the ground and in the air.
In his starting role against Southampton, Johnston impressed despite the 2-0 defeat. He created one big chance with one key pass, recorded a 100 per cent long pass success rate, and beat his man with two of three attempted dribbles.

With Albion currently sitting in the playoff places, a win against Hull to record back-to-back victories will be a huge boost to their chances which have been talked up by pundits recently.
Hull have been in a strong run of form themselves, with five wins in their last six games, and head into the game off the back of an impressive 2-1 victory against automatic promotion-hopefuls Southampton.
