Don Goodman drools over Darnell Furlong after what he did in West Brom v Hull live on Sky Sports
Don Goodman was left drooling over West Brom ace Darnell Furlong after his goal in the Championship clash with Hull on Saturday.
The Baggies fell behind to a Fabio Carvalho thunderbolt before Furlong headed an equaliser just before half-time as he outmuscled his opponent.
And reacting to the goal on commentary while live on Sky Sports (24 February, 13:13), Goodman couldn’t help but praise the right-back for his goal and labelled him a “secret weapon” for the Baggies as he is underrated by the masses.
“Well he’s a secret weapon you know, Darnell Furlong,” he said. “I’ve watched him over the years and massively underestimated powerhouse when it comes to the ball being in the air and heading ability.
“He’s aggressive in his movement and he’s almost being wrestled, but he gets across and gets the perfect contact. This is barely even a chance. He’s way beyond that near post. That little flick into the ground is the thing that does for Ryan Allsop.
“No chance for Allsop, brilliant from Furlong.”
West Brom: The most underrated in the Championship
It feels like every time the Baggies take to the pitch against another team being tipped for promotion, they’re immediately underdogs.
That could be due to the way the team is set up by Carlos Corberan, with defensive solidity the priority, but Furlong has been a standout performer for the team in recent years.
His energy to get up and down the pitch is unmatched, while he is always capable of providing a threat going forward as proven in this game.
Furlong is the epitome of the playing staff at The Hawthorns. A consistently reliable player who you know exactly what you’re going to get every time he steps on the pitch.
He is underrated among the better full-backs in the Championship, just like West Brom are underrated as one of the better teams in the division. It’s a match made in heaven.
