West Brom: Carlos Corberan lifts lid on Shilen Patel talks amid sack speculation

West Brom manager Carlos Corberan has lifted the lid on his conversations with new Albion owner Shilen Patel, admitting that he has brought “excitement” to The Hawthorns.

Patel has agreed on a deal to acquire Guochuan Lai’s controlling stake in the Baggies, but there are fears that the new West Brom owner will look to replace Corberan and bring a new manager into the fold in place of the Spaniard.

However, Corberan has insisted that he has had positive early talks with the American businessman, with the pair meeting for the first time following Albion’s disappointing Championship defeat to Southampton.

As quoted by the Express and Star on Saturday (24 February) he said: “He is someone that is going to bring a lot of resources and energy to help put the club in the place it deserves to be. It’s not the same if you have money than if you don’t, to buy whatever you want.

“We are still in the same part of the process. Everything is still waiting to be completed and we understand the excitement of the people because the staff, the players and the fans all know that it’s something positive for the club and everyone is looking forward to it being complete.

“I met him after the game against Southampton. Unfortunately, it was a difficult day for me because I was sent off but I met him personally and we had the possibility to have a conversation and some words.

“It was a very simple conversation. It was the first time I met him.”

Will Shilen Patel sack Carlos Corberan at West Brom

While you can never say never in football, it is clear that from Corberan’s point of view, Patel’s takeover at The Hawthorns is nothing but a positive thing for the Baggies with no indication that he is fearing for his job.

This season, Albion have shown that they can challenge for promotion to the Premier League with incredibly limited resources under Lai, primarily because of Corberan’s influence in the dugout.

West Brom have blown away some of the Championship’s best teams and many pundits and supporters now expect them to book their place in the playoffs this term and few would bet against them coming out on top.

Hopefully, Patel has come away from his first interaction with the Baggies boss in a similarly positive manner and any suggestions of an unjustified sacking can be put to bed before they even truly begin.
