West Brom permanent move mooted for ‘absolutely brilliant’ Celtic loanee Mikey Johnston
West Brom will be looking to bring Mikey Johnston in on a permanent deal from Celtic in the summer depending on which division they are in, according to Carlton Palmer.
Speaking to Football League World on Tuesday (27 February), the pundit said the Republic of Ireland international has been “absolutely brilliant” for the Baggies since making the loan switch from the Scottish club in the January transfer window.
He added that there had been suggestions from previous managers about the 24-year-old’s attitude and the way he trains, but he believes the winger is a “mercurial talent” and that he’s done really well since moving to The Hawthorns, with the Albion fans clamouring for the club to sing him permanently.
“One of the players that is making an impression is Mikey Johnston, who they signed from Celtic in the January transfer window,” said Palmer. “He’s come in, he’s a mercurial talent, he’s 24 years of age, and he’s done very, very well. The West Brom supporters are really pleased with him, and there’s a clamour to sign him permanently.
“He is doing very, very well at West Brom, there are some suggestions from previous managers about his attitude and the way he trains, but he’s been absolutely brilliant at West Brom, and so I’m sure, depending on which division West Brom are in next season, they’ll be looking at whether they could bring Mikey into the football club.”
Could West Brom sign Mikey Johnston permanently from Celtic?
There is no doubt that signing Johnston on a permanent deal in the summer transfer window will be something West Brom are going to consider.
It could depend on which division they are playing in next season, but if they are promoted to the Premier League, then there is a good chance he will be crucial in achieving that success.
The Irishman has been superb in his first month at The Hawthorns, having put in some excellent performances on his way to scoring two goals in his opening six games for the club.

It’s clear that the winger’s future is in doubt with Celtic after making the loan move to the Baggies, so there is every reason to suggest he could be available on a permanent deal in the summer.
Carlos Corberan will be looking for him to maintain his performance level over the next few months before potentially opening up discussions with the Glasgow club further down the line.
