West Brom: Shilen Patel makes dramatic social media change after takeover news

West Brom chairman Shilen Patel made a dramatic change to his personal X account following the US businessman’s takeover of the club

The Baggies announced in an official statement earlier in February that Patel and his company Bilkul Football WBA, LLC had agreed on a deal to acquire Guochan Lai’s controlling stake in the Baggies at The Hawthorns.

That deal has now been ratified, after Birmingham Live journalist Joe Chapman suggested the handover was going to be completed this week. That handover has now been completed and Patel will assume control of the Baggies.

On Wednesday (28 February) Patel changed his profile picture to a photo with the Albion crest behind him, before updating his cover picture to a photo of The Hawthorns while also adding the words “WBA chairman” to his bio.

When will West Brom complete their takeover?

There has been an optimistic feeling around The Hawthorns ever since it was announced that Lai’s tenure in charge of the Baggies was coming to an end, with supporters vocal in their unhappiness with his running of the club.

However, that excitement had slightly declined since the initial announcement from West Brom as the updates surrounding Patel’s takeover had become slightly quieter, before the official confirmation emerged from the club.

This deal was never going to be easy to complete as various different parties continued to work across timezones all over the world to allow the American businessman to complete his official handover of control from Lai.

While Patel’s updated page on X wasn’t confirmation that a deal has definitely been completed, it did suggest that things are heading in the right direction and official announcement from the club was never going to be far away.
