West Brom: Shilen Patel confidant shares summer transfer plans at The Hawthorns
Shilen Patel could freshen up the West Brom squad with some younger players, according to a personal friend of the American businessman.
Morgan Auto Group CEO Brett Morgan is an old schoolfriend of Patel’s and the pair have stayed in touch.
Morgan, posting via his official Twitter account [27 February], tipped Patel – who is awaiting final confirmation of a takeover – to be a big success at The Hawthorns and shared some transfer plans.
“[Patel] mentioned the current team was very experienced,” Morgan said. “I imagine some movement towards some young talent is in the cards.”
West Brom to target youth in summer transfer window?
West Brom are in for a busy summer regardless of what division they find themselves in. Should promotion be achieved, there will no doubt be plenty of funds available to bring in some more quality.
Should the Baggies fail to go up, however, they will need to replace out-of-contract players – assuming Cedric Kipre, Alex Mowatt and Co do not agree fresh terms beforehand – and strengthen various areas.
For the first time in a while, Albion can head into a transfer window with excitement more than trepidation. After relying on loans and free agents, it will be good to see what approach is taken.
If Patel does indeed favour looking at younger players, nobody can complain about that. Signing up-and-comers who have a future sell-on value is always a smart way to go about things.
While the transfer window may still be over three months away from opening, those behind the scenes are no doubt already drawing up possible options depending on what division the club is in.
This update of sorts certainly suggests that Patel knows what he is doing, though, which makes for a nice change.
In other West Brom news, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp namechecked the Baggies in his press conference on Tuesday [27 February].
