David Prutton predicts West Brom v Coventry City result, ‘great chance’

David Prutton has predicted a 1-1 draw as West Brom prepare to take on Coventry City in a Championship clash on Friday 1 March.

Both sides are currently experiencing a mixed form, with the Baggies hoping to remain in the playoff spots while Coventry are aiming to steal one of those places in the league.

Grady Diangana and Brandon Thomas-Asante got on the scoresheet in the reverse fixture as Carlos Corberan’s side claimed a 2-0 victory in October, but it may not be so easy this time.

Writing for Sky Sports on Thursday (29 February), Prutton said: “West Brom have given themselves a little bit of a gap over the chasing pack in the play-off race, and this is a great chance on Friday night to extend that and put themselves in a really strong position.

“Coventry were stunned at home by Preston last time out in the Championship, but they brushed that off quickly with a win over Maidstone in the FA Cup. They can’t really afford a defeat here if they don’t want to fall further away from the top six, but I don’t think they’ll win either.

“Prediction: 1-1.”

Can West Brom keep their place in the Championship playoff spots?

West Brom will need to take inspiration from the recent news of Shilen Patel’s takeover at The Hawthorns if they are to complete the league double over the Sky Blues.

The Baggies have been frustrated over the last few weeks, dropping points to high-flyers Ipswich Town and Southampton, as well as the most recent draw against Hull City.

Corberan will be keen to claim all three points against teams also aiming for Premier League promotion, maintaining the one-point gap they already have over sixth-place Hull and, hopefully, opening up the gap.

Though it is extremely unlikely that the Baggies can make a late bid for automatic promotion ahead of the likes of Leicester City and Leeds United, it is vital that they pick up as many points in the run-in to the end of the season.

West Brom
Carlos Corberan camme through the managerial ranks at Leeds before moves to Huddersfield and West Brom.

With the resources that Corberan has been limited to in his time at the club, it is fair to say that the Spaniard has done an unbelievable job and should be commended for leading West Brom to such a high position in the Championship.

Promotion is a very real prospect this season and the Baggies certainly have a shot at battling through the playoffs and claiming that third promotion spot.
