West Brom: £1.58bn Shilen Patel claim emerges post takeover
American businessman Shilen Patel completed the takeover of West Brom from Guochuan Lai on Wednesday, 28 February.
According to the Athletic on 29 February, the Patel’s family offices are based in the United States.
It’s understood that the total assets are worth around £1.58billion.
The report reads: “With his flagship business, HealthAxis Group, now owned by new investors, Patel has turned his attention to the portfolio of other businesses within the family office.
“Family offices are used in the United States as a tool to manage every aspect of their wealth, often using a small team of investment managers to use the office as investment funds.
“The Patel family office, which includes Shilen, his father and several other members, is claimed to have assets worth around $2billion (£1.58bn).”
Is Patel the perfect man to take West Brom back to the Premier League
Patel’s successful track record as an entrepreneur and business leader, particularly evident in his role as CEO of HealthAxis Group, showcases his ability to manage complex operations and navigate financial challenges.
His longstanding passion for football, nurtured since childhood and further evidenced by his investment in Serie A club Bologna, demonstrates a genuine commitment to the sport beyond mere financial gain.
Unlike Guochuan Lai, who barely was spotted at the Hawthorns, there’s every chance of Patel being a hands-on owner.
The American’s strategic approach to the club’s ownership, as evidenced by his willingness to provide financial stability and support the long-term goals of returning to the Premier League, suggests a thoughtful and considered leadership style.

Given his recent interview, it indicates that he’s got a willingness to work with existing club structures and personnel to achieve success which means he’s more of a reformist than someone who’ll make radical changes.
In other West Brom news, a once exit-bound Baggies player is now likely for a Hawthorns stay as a contract twist has emerged recently.
