West Brom: Doctor shares if Martin Kelly may be forced to retire from football
West Brom defender is facing an injury setback but is unlikely to be required to retire from football, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.
The injury expert claims that recovering from an ACL rupture can always have its challenges, especially when training is being ramped up.
The 33-year-old is unlikely to return to first-team training for the next few weeks as he’s suffered a setback in his rehabilitation.
Speaking exclusively with West Brom News about Kelly’s situation, Brar, a specialist in Physical Therapy and Sports Scientist, said:
“These injuries aren’t unexpected after facing a lengthy absence.
“In Kelly’s case, it’s an ACL rupture and attempting to increase intensity always can lead to consequences.
“It doesn’t sound like anything that would lead to retirement but I also can’t peek into the player’s head and see how he feels about it.
“He’s perhaps unlikely to train for the next few weeks.“
Kelly is soon to be out of contract at West Brom
At the time of his injury in February, he was understood to be out for the next 10 weeks which would mean he’s out until May.
The right-back’s contract at the Hawthorns runs out in the summer and he is unlikely to be given a new deal.

He has not played a single game this season for Carlos Corberan’s side and his lack of availability poses a huge issue.
In other West Brom news, a once exit-bound Baggies player is now likely for a Hawthorns stay as a contract twist has emerged recently.
