West Brom: Lepkowski shares PSR issue for Shilen Patel after Hawthorns takeover news confirmed
Chris Lepkowski has revealed a profit and sustainability (PSR) issue for Shilen Patel after he completed a takeover at West Brom.
The former Birmingham Mail journalist tweeted on Wednesday (28 February) that the American businessman will not be able to pump money into the Baggies in the same way previous owners could due to incoming PSR rules.
He added that it will mean new ways of bringing in revenue opportunities will need to be found, but that he feels more confident about the new majority shareholder after Albion confirmed he has acquired Guochuan Lai’s 87.8 per cent stake at The Hawthorns.
Shilen Patel can deliver better times at West Brom
There is every reason to suggest that Patel can deliver much better times at West Brom than his predecessor after years of mismanagement under Lai.
While the PSR rules are pretty strict, they present an opportunity for the best-run clubs to rise to the top as they find new revenue streams.
The Patel family are highly regarded – and successful – businesspeople so you would expect they have plenty of ideas on how to take advantage of more growth opportunities at The Hawthorns.
Carlos Corberan has already been working wonders on a shoestring budget this season after he was forced to let a number of players leave last summer to balance the books.
The Albion boss will no doubt be looking forward to working with the new chairman to deliver success on the field and help the club get back to the Premier League.
