West Brom: Shilen Patel must hand Alex Mowatt new contract after takeover at The Hawthorns
One of the first orders of business for Shilen Patel following his takeover of West Brom should be sorting out the complex contract situation at The Hawthorns.
Several Albion stars are set to see their contracts expire at the end of the current season, with several expected to leave. One who should be staying, however, is Alex Mowatt.
Carlos Corberan recently confirmed that talks have already begun with both Mowatt and Cedric Kipre, and it must now be ensured that both key players sign on the dotted line.
Alex Mowatt earns new West Brom contract following takeover
Mowatt has cemented himself as a key player in Corberan’s squad this season, despite original doubts that he could cut it at West Brom following a loan spell away from the club last year.
He has been one of the most consistent performers at The Hawthorns, with only one of his last nine displays falling under a 7.0 rating according to Sofascore, backing up that consistency he has shown.
The 1-1 draw with Hull City saw his rating drop under that base for the first time in months, but despite that, he still recorded a 92 per cent passing accuracy and one key pass, completing two of three attempted long balls and only losing possession six times.
Overall this season, Mowatt has averaged a 90 per cent passing accuracy, alongside 1.5 key passes per game and an average of a 50 per cent dribble success rate, displaying his confidence in possession.
Defensively, he has also been reliable, with an average 67 per cent duel success rate, 4.7 recoveries per game, 1.6 tackles per game, and only having picked up two yellows despite his deeper midfield role.

As a result of those consistently impressive performances under the guidance of Corberan, Mowatt has certainly earned himself a new deal, and Shilen Patel must make sure he hands him one.
