West Brom: Carlos Corberan shares major injury update on senior attacker trio
Carlos Corberan has shared an “optimistic” injury update on West Brom attacking trio Matty Phillips, Josh Maja and Brandon Thomas-Asante.
The attackers have all been suffering with injuries in recent times, with Phillips and Maja not playing since December while Asante has missed each of the last two games also.
But the boss, speaking in his pre-Coventry press conference (29 February), admitted that the club are hoping to have the former two back in training during the international break this month although he is still waiting on more information on the former Salford man’s issue.
“We are with those players in the same process,” Corberan said. “They are progressing well, something that is very important to have.
“We don’t know if Phillips may do some part of training the week before the Bristol City game. The plan is that hopefully he can do some of the drills and then come back to us in the international break.
“Maja will make some of the training during the international break, so that when the break is finished he will be introduced back with the group – if everything goes well. Right now, with Maja, the more optimistic thing is what I tell you. In the last days, before Millwall, hopefully he can do some part of the training.
“With Asante, still we don’t know to see if he is able to help the team before the international break or not. It’s something that in the next days I will know more in detail.”
West Brom finally getting squad depth back
It’s been a long time since West Brom have had a playing squad that is near full strength, but they seem to be getting back to that at the moment.
Corberan has been dealing with a host of injury problems this season, with several different players out of the squad at different times for long periods.
But the manager has always found solutions to keep the team in the promotion hunt, and it just makes you question what the team could really achieve if he had all of his players available.

The likes of Jayson Molumby and Daryl Dike won’t be available again this season which is also a major blow, but having key players like Phillips and Maja back for the run-in and potentially the playoffs could be crucial to getting the team back to the Premier League.
The international break is usually something fans don’t look forward to, but this could be the reset the team needs and fans will be delighted once it’s over if the squad looks stronger.
