West Brom: Carlos Corberan shares Yann M’Vila debut update ahead of Coventry City clash

West Brom midfielder Yann M’Vila will not be part of the Baggies’ squad for their clash with Coventry City but is “not far” away from being involved, according to Carlos Corberan.

The 33-year-old midfielder joined Albion on a free transfer in February to provide cover for the injured Jayson Molumby but is yet to make his debut as he continues to build his fitness having left Olympiacos last summer.

While some supporters had hoped to see the Frenchman involved against Coventry on Friday (1 March), Corberan has confirmed it will take a late change for M’Vila to feature at The Hawthorns as he moves closer to his Albion debut.

As quoted by Birmingham Live on Friday (1 March) he said: “M’Vila has been training well this week. Two days ago he did the first 10v10 since he has been with us. That was an important step for him. He has been training.

“He’s not going to be involved against Coventry unless something happens in the last hours. He will keep working tomorrow. As soon as he completes training after Friday, it’ll move M’Vila to a different scenario.

“That’ll mean he’ll have done two days of 10v10. He will have completed the sprint distance necessary to compete in the high intensity. He’ll have built the extra level that he needed to have to, let’s say, be available.

“He has shown some of his level, yes, but still we have two different days in front of us, and after these, I think he’ll be an option to add to the squad. Right now, still no, but we are not far.”

Will Yann M’Vila be able to play for West Brom against Coventry City?

It was always going to take some time for M’Vila to get up to speed with West Brom’s training as the 33-year-old hadn’t played any professional football for more than six months before joining Corberan’s ranks at The Hawthorns.

But it appears as though the Frenchman is getting closer to finally making his Albion debut, even if the clash with Coventry City on Friday night may have come a bit too early in his development.

Carlos Corberan has been praised for the job he’s done at West Brom

It is a boost to West Brom that M’Vila isn’t too far away from making an impact on the first-team squad and it may only be a matter of days before supporters see the 33-year-old in Albion colours.

As Corberan’s side look to secure their place in the Championship playoff places this term, the midfielder’s introduction in the final days of the season could prove to be decisive.
