West Brom: Shilen Patel thoughts on Carlos Corberan shared amid sack talk at The Hawthorns

West Brom majority shareholder Shilen Patel recognises that manager Carlos Corberan “is an excellent operator”, according to John Percy.

Recent reports indicated that Albion may look to bring in a new boss once the takeover formally went through, which has now happened.

Torino head coach Ivan Juric was said to have been eyed up by the Baggies to succeed Corberan in the summer [Tuttosport, 12 February].

However, in an article for The Telegraph [1 March] surrounding the takeover situation, Percy suggested that is unlikely to be the case.

“[Patel] recognises the club as a huge asset for the local community – indeed, his favourite player is academy product Tom Fellows,” Percy said.

“Crucially, Patel also recognises that Corberan is an excellent operator.”

Ivan Juric linked with West Brom managerial job

West Brom have surprised a lot of people this season with their performance levels and consistency, having been in the top six for months now.

The Baggies are well on their way to making the play-offs, at which point they will fancy their chances of beating any opponent they face.

You have to wonder if any of this would have been possible without Corberan in the dugout. The Spaniard really has been a difference-maker, even earning praise from Jurgen Klopp for his style of play.

Incredibly, Corberan is already the fifth-longest serving manager in the Championship, despite only being appointed in October 2022.

It goes without saying that should Albion get promoted this season, Corberan deserves a new contract on vastly improved terms.

Even if they do not go up, though, they could do a lot worse than sit down and persuade the former Huddersfield Town boss to pen fresh terms.

Patel clearly has the club’s best interests at heart, unlike the man he succeeded, but there would rightly be a huge uproar if Corberan was axed.

In other West Brom news, Don Goodman has shared an “unfair” verdict regarding Albion and Corberan.
