West Brom vs QPR: Shilen Patel update emerges ahead of Championship trip to Loftus Road

Shilen Patel is expected to be in attendance as West Brom travel to Queens Park Rangers in midweek, according to Lewis Cox.

The Express & Star journalist reported via Twitter on 4 March that the new Baggies majority shareholder is expected to see his first game in person since his takeover from Guochuan Lai was completed last week.

Patel had previously been at The Hawthorns for the defeat to Southampton on 16 February, the day after the deal was originally announced, but missed the win at home to Coventry City on Friday night (1 March), two days after the move officially went through.

The American reacted to the 2-1 result online instead after the new era got off to a winning start thanks to goals from Mikey Johnston and Grady Diangana.

West Brom chief Shilen Patel due to attend QPR game in person after completed takeover

Carlos Corberan will hope that the trip to West London goes better in front of his new boss than the last time Patel was in the stands.

On paper the visit to QPR is far more winnable than the home game against the promotion-chasing Saints, but the Baggies boss will still need to avoid the strange set backs that occurred that night.

A surprising team selection was followed by a controversial sending off for touching a ball that was deemed to still be in play, and his substitutions saw Andi Weimann left on the bench for 90 minutes despite chasing the game.

West Brom having won two and drawn one since that night to get back on track in their hunt to secure a play off place, with promotion to the Premier League potentially freeing up Patel’s ownership to be far more transformational than another season in the second tier.

The margin for error remains very slim however, with Hull City just three points behind fifth-placed Albion followed by Norwich City and Preston North End who are four and six points from the Baggies respectively.

In other West Brom news, a Baggies ace could now be moved on to accommodate an exciting new signing.
