David Prutton lauds ‘real star’ in QPR v West Brom prediction

David Prutton shared his prediction for QPR versus West Brom on Wednesday 6 March, lauding Mikey Johnston as a potential threat for the Baggies.

While Carlos Corberan’s men are in fine form, losing just once against Southampton in their last seven matches, QPR are coming into the game off the back of an impressive 2-1 win over Leicester City.

West Brom will be hoping to take one step closer to securing a Championship playoff spot, with three points separating them from Hull City in sixth while QPR are at risk of relegation.

Prutton, though, predicts the Baggies will have to settle for a 2-2 draw.

Predicting the result for Sky Sports on Monday (4 March), Prutton wrote: “QPR have won three on the bounce, but this is nowhere near job done yet. What a result at Leicester it was for them, though. If that doesn’t give them that extra lift to really push on out of trouble then nothing will.

“West Brom were really good in that win over Coventry on Friday night. They have so much threat, and in Mikey Johnston, they have got a real star for the rest of the season. But with QPR in such good nick, I do feel this will be spoils shared.

“Prediction: 2-2.”

Are West Brom facing QPR at the wrong time?

The Baggies faced QPR in October, with Brandon Thomas-Asante and Grady Diangana securing a 2-0 victory at The Hawthorns. However, Loftus Road has seen a plethora of changes since then, with Gareth Ainsworth replaced by Marti Cifuentes in the managerial hot seat.

And although the Hoops are still very much at risk of relegation from the Championship, level on points with Stoke City despite sitting in 19th, they pose as a very real danger to West Brom.

QPR will be high off their recent victory over the Foxes, with Ilias Chair and Sinclair Armstrong netting against the league leaders, claiming their third successive win.

West Brom boss Carlos Corberan

The London side have only managed this feat one other time this season, racking up 17 league losses this season so far. It is fair to say that West Brom are facing QPR at exactly the wrong time.

However, if the Baggies want to secure promotion to the Premier League, they must overcome every hurdle thrown at them during the run-in to the end of the campaign, with a playoff spot looking the most likely outcome.
