West Brom: Mo Faal may regret controversial January deal after latest development

After making the controversial move to terminate his loan deal at Doncaster Rovers and move to Walsall, West Brom youngster Mo Faal has been turned into an impact sub at his new club.

The decision made during the January transfer window was met with plenty of controversy but was ultimately down to the player and his agent.

Doncaster boss Grant McCann revealed that neither his club nor West Brom were happy with the decision made by Faal and his agent to terminate his loan deal and move to Walsall.

Will Mo Faal regret his controversial January loan deal?

In terms of league positions, the move has definitely paid off. The 21-year-old’s reason for the deal was to compete at a higher level, with his new side currently sitting sixth in League Two, fighting for a playoff spot, while Doncaster are 20th and battling relegation.

However, after starting the first three games after arriving at the League Two outfit, Faal has been dropped to the bench for each of the last six league games. [Sofascore]

He has proved himself as somewhat of a super-sub though, with two goals and an assist in his last three appearances, although he will not have made his decision in January simply to be an impact sub at his new team.

Before he made the switch, Faal had started six of Donny’s last seven league games and was making a name for himself as one of their key players, and was used to regular starts, but now he will have to fight to regain his place.

Ultimately, the loan deal may be a success, especially if he can pick up more regular starts and help lead Walsall to an unlikely promotion from League Two, but for now, he has a fight on his hands to make himself a starter once more.
