West Brom star Tom Fellows tipped for England Under-21s recognition for Baggies form

Tom Fellows “must” be in contention to be called up by the England Under-21s after his “really impressive” form for West Brom, says Tom Collomosse.

The Daily Mail journalist issued the international prediction via Twitter on 5 March following a run which has seen the 20-year-old become a regular starter for Carlos Corberan since the turn of the year, and respond with four goals and three assists in all competitions.

England’s U21s face Azerbaijan and Luxembourg later this month and the Baggies academy product may now have played himself into contention for Lee Carsley’s squad.

Collomosse wrote: “West Brom’s Tom Fellows must be in the frame for an England U21 call-up for the forthcoming matches. Really impressive winger with loads of potential – 20, homegrown, regular starter in the Champ.”

Chris Lepkowski replied: “Absolutely Tom. Will be surprised if he has slipped under the radar.”

West Brom youngster goes from strength to strength under Carlos Corberan

The constant drain on the West Brom squad that has seen numerous attacking players knocked out by injury has helped open the door for Fellows this year and he has charged straight through it.

With Jed Wallace increasingly pressed into action as an emergency false-nine the 20-year-old has thrived on the right, and has helped keep important January arrival Andi Weimann on the bench.

Mikey Johnston’s exploits on the other side of the Albion attacking line up have probably been more eye-catching, and have increased the chances that he will be targeted for a permanent move in the summer.

But while the Irishman is seen as heavily-one-footed Fellows’ ability with both arguably makes him an even greater weapon.

Should he get a call up it will be just reward for his impact at The Hawthorns this season, but Corberan’s pride in the recognition would likely be tempered slightly by the risk of the youngster joining the extensive West Brom injury list while he is away.
