West Brom: Don Goodman baffled by Jed Wallace ‘gamble’ v QPR
Don Goodman was left baffled by Jed Wallace’s decision-making for West Brom in the buildup to QPR’s opening goal in the 2-2 draw at Loftus Road.
The Baggies travelled to London to take on QPR in a crucial Championship clash at both ends of the table on Wednesday (6 March).
It was the hosts who took the lead through Sam Field in the 17th minute after the visitors had failed to clear their lines, and Wallace’s complacency on the ball surprised Goodman.
Commentating on Sky Sports Football’s live coverage of the match, Goodman said, “Unusually for them (West Brom), they gave the ball away on the edge almost of their own penalty area.
“That is what resulted in Ilias Chair’s super strike, he got it to fiz and dip and skid off the turf, too hot for Alex Palmer to handle. This is really surprising, Wallace takes a gamble and it’s robbed.”
Mikey Johnston and Grady Diangana put the Baggies in front by the break but Field equalised to seal a point after an incident-packed game.
Carlos Corberan will not be happy with Jed Wallace and West Brom
In truth, QPR dominated much of the match as Corberan’s side made several mistakes while looking to build out from the back and eventually dropped two valuable points against QPR.
Unfortunately for Wallace, where some of his teammates also gave the ball away in dangerous areas of the pitch, his mistake was the most high-profile as it led to a goal.
He did very little to make up for this mistake either as he failed to provide much quality in the final third.

Goodman was right to call out the West Brom number seven for his sloppy mistake, and Corberan will look to ensure that similar mistakes are not made between now and the end of the season.
West Brom find themselves in a competitive race for a play-off position, and they will need to make sure they don’t make dropping points away from home a habit if they wish to return to the Premier League.
