West Brom: QPR fan spotted in Cedric Kipre altercation as new Sky Sports footage emerges
West Brom defender Cedric Kipre has been spotted being targeted by a QPR fan with a rubber band during the Baggies’ 2-2 draw at Loftus Road on Wednesday 6 March.
Carlos Corberan’s side boosted their chances of finishing within the Championship playoff places as they shared the points with Marti Cifuentes’ side thanks to first-half goals from Celtic loanee Mikey Johnston and Grady Diangana.
However, the game wasn’t without controversy as Kipre handled the ball on the goal line in the second half to deny Steve Cook an almost certain goal, but the officials didn’t appear to spot the defender’s save.
One QPR fan has been spotted taking out his frustration live on Sky Sports in a clip posted to X by maxqprfc (6 March) which sees the fan flick an elastic band at the 27-year-old in the 89th minute.
Will Cedric Kipre receive any punishment for his moment of madness for West Brom?
It’s safe to say that Kipre did very little to disguise his save in the second half, much to every QPR fan and Cifuentes’ frustration, but it is ridiculous that one supporter decided to fire a minor attack back at the defender.
While an elastic band is unlikely to have done much damage to the 27-year-old, it is unnecessary and disappointing to see a supporter fire any sort of object towards a player on the field, whether it be damaging or not.
While the Albion defender deserves criticism for his handball in the second half, that shouldn’t ever become physical. Wednesday’s incident may not have been too big an issue, but these sorts of things can very quickly escalate.
Hopefully, some retrospective action can be taken against the fan in the coming days or weeks, especially as he has been so clearly seen on the broadcaster’s footage.
