West Brom: Shilen Patel shares ‘phenomenal’ Baggies admission after draw v QPR
Shilen Patel has been blown away by West Brom and their away support during their showdown with QPR, labelling the travelling Albion fans “phenomenal”.
Carlos Corberan’s side strengthened their grip on a top-six place with a 2-2 draw at Loftus Road on Wednesday (6 March) thanks to first-half goals from Celtic loanee Mikey Johnston and Grady Diangana.
New West Brom chairman Patel was in attendance at QPR for his first match since completing his handover from Guochan Lai and was quick to heap praise on the Albion fanbase while also insisting the Baggies will beat Huddersfield.
Writing on X on Wednesday (6 March) he said: “Tough point in a tough place. The travelling Baggies support was phenomenal! We’ll get the next one.”
Will Shilen Patel and Carlos Corberan guide West Brom back to the Premier League?
A few weeks ago, most West Brom supporters would have been disappointed to have dropped points against QPR, but under Marti Cifuentes, they have become an incredibly tough team to face and a point is a good result.
Albion needed a helping hand to claim all three points on Wednesday night, primarily from Cedric Kipre, but Corberan’s side did all that they could to claim all three points and they deserved at least a point from the clash.
Hopefully, Patel would have been encouraged by what he saw at Loftus Road ahead of a crucial summer at The Hawthorns. While he won’t be able to throw money at the squad, he will have seen that there is plenty of promise in this squad.
If nothing else, the US businessman and West Brom chairman should already be considering a permanent move for Celtic winger Johnston as the Ireland international seems to be going from strength to strength under Corberan.
