Darren Bent and Andy Goldstein argue over ‘weird’ West Brom controversy v QPR
Darren Bent and Andy Goldstein argued live on air after Cedric Kipre was spotted clearing a goal-bound shot off the line using his hand during West Brom v QPR on Wednesday (6 March).
With the Baggies 2-1 up, and QPR pressing for an equaliser, the Baggies defender was able to clear a shot from Sam Field with the use of his hand, which was not spotted by the officials.
Bent, the former Tottenham Hotspur and Derby County striker, is certain that he would have been “livid” as a QPR fan, with Goldstein somewhat enjoying the chaotic moment during the game, which finished 2-2.
Speaking live via talkSPORT on Thursday (7 March, 4:12pm), Bent said: “It’s a great save! It was cheating, it’s blatantly handball and has made the save.
“But the weird thing is that none of the fans behind the goal scream for anything – how has no one seen this? None of the players even call for a penalty, nothing.”
Goldstein interjected, saying: “I quite like the fact that has happened and he got away with it. In theory, you could argue that QPR would have got all three points, which would have put them in 16th but they drew so they’re still in the relegation zone.”
Bent continued: “If I were a QPR fan, I’d be livid. But because I’m not, it’s just one of those, isn’t it? It’s swings and roundabouts. You just get on with it.”
How key could Cedric Kipre’s intervention be for West Brom this season?
With Norwich City losing out to Middlesbrough, it was vital that Carlos Corberan’s side claimed at least a point at Loftus Road, although all three points would have certainly been preferred.
Currently 10 points behind Southampton in the Championship, the Baggies must do everything in their powers to not drop out of the playoff spots, with Hull City and Norwich breathing down their neck.
QPR fans definitely have a reason to be angry with the situation. Their team has been denied a clear and obvious penalty, and Kipre would have likely been sent off. Field will also be upset, having been denied a hat-trick.

However, if the officials have missed the controversial moment, that was so blatant after replays emerged, is it really the fault of the player for the penalty not being given?
It is not very common for a footballer to be open about wrongdoings on the pitch, and Kipre is not required to own up to the handball, especially when his side are under the cosh.
