Tony Brown rages over Alex Palmer after what West Brom goalkeeper did v Huddersfield

Tony Brown placed the blame on West Brom goalkeeper Alex Palmer after the Baggies went 1-0 down in their 4-1 Championship win over Huddersfield Town.

Carlos Corberan’s side were in terrible form in the first half on Sunday (10 March) but four second-half goals secured three points for the Albion for the first time this season after going behind.

The Baggies made a nightmare start to the match when Delano Burgzog put the hosts ahead inside the 30th minute after some sloppy play by goalkeeper Palmer.

While speaking on BBC Radio West Midlands (12:30 pm, 10 March), Brown was not impressed with Palmer, saying, “Palmer, he has got to do better than that.

“He can’t afford to try and play football around his own box there, he’s just got to put his foot behind it, get distance and get it out the danger.

“He is trying to play like an outfielder, and he nearly got caught there.”

Burgzog then found the back of the net moments later, and Brown was once again critical of Palmer, tracing the goal back to his earlier mistake.

“That all came about at the start by Albion’s keeper, trying to play football instead of clearing his lines, clearing the danger.”

Alex Palmer goes from hero to zero for West Brom against Huddersfield Town

Just a few days ago, Brown was describing Palmer as a game-changer for West Brom in their 2-2 draw with QPR at Loftus Road (5 March).

It is a reminder of how quickly football can change, and Palmer will need to make sure he puts the mistake behind him as quickly as possible.

Corberan and his players find themselves in with a good chance of finishing in the play-off places in the Championship, and they will need to ensure that they don’t continue to make sloppy mistakes if they want to return to the Premier League.

Perhaps Palmer is feeling the pressure of the Championship run-in, but after a largely positive season, he will want to make sure his campaign doesn’t fall flat on a personal note.

Sometimes being a goalkeeper can be the loneliest position in football, and Palmer will definitely be feeling that way after his mistake against Huddersfield.
