West Brom: Carlos Corberan must put emotion aside to secure win v Huddersfield as quotes emerge
West Brom will be keen to continue their winning run in the Championship when they take on Huddersfield.
The Baggies, who are unbeaten in their last four games and sit fifth in the table, travel to the John Smith’s Stadium on Sunday (10 March).
Three points would certainly keep the pressure on fourth-placed Southampton, at a venue that Albion manager Carlos Corberan knows very well.
The Hawthorns hero was in charge of Huddersfield between July 2020 and July 2022, enjoying superb success with the Terriers.
Now, however, he is in the opposing dugout, and must put his history with Huddersfield to one side on Sunday.
But the manager clearly still has strong emotional ties to the Terriers, a club which he took to Wembley in the 2021/22 Championship play-offs.
“When you spend two years working for one club and you manage 102 games for them, it means you have been part of the past of the club and the club has been part of your past,” said Corberan, as quoted by the official West Brom website (8 March).
“It’s going to be the first time I have managed against them at their stadium since leaving. I had a lot of positive moments at Huddersfield, but I am fully focused on West Bromwich Albion and the job we have ahead of us.”
West Brom boss Carlos Corberan must put Huddersfield ties aside
The fact it is Corberan’s first time back may just be playing on the mind of the manager, but his final comments regarding his full focus on the Baggies should relax the travelling fans.
A clear professional, the man in the dugout has been true to West Brom for some time now, with that attitude needed against Huddersfield in what is a great chance to stay firmly in the race for the play-offs.
There is plenty of pressure on the Albion, with their nearest competitors Norwich City smashing Rotherham 5-0 on Saturday (9 March).

Seventh-placed Hull City meanwhile clinched a hard-fought draw with league leaders Leicester City, while eighth-placed Coventry defeated Watford.
