West Brom: Tony Brown slams ‘poor’ Andi Weimann after what he did v Huddersfield

Tony Brown blasted Andreas Weimann for what he did in the first half of the West Brom game against Huddersfield Town on Sunday (10 March).

Speaking on co-commentary on BBC Radio WM (12:03pm), the pundit said it was “poor” from the Austrian international, who is on loan from Bristol City, as he failed to find Mikey Johnston with a cross-field ball just a couple of minutes into the game against the Terriers.

He added that the Republic of Ireland international could have been in a dangerous position on the left-hand if the 32-year-old forward had found him.

“Poor from Weimann there wasn’t it,” said Brown. “Johnson was free on this left-hand side if he could have got it to him, it could have been dangerous.

“We were talking earlier about Johnson on this left-hand side, cutting in on that right foot of his he’s scored two screamers.”

Andi Weimann should have done better for West Brom

It was a situation where Weimann would have been disappointed with his contribution as he should have really found Johnston in acres of space out on the left-hand side.

The 24-year-old, who is on loan from Celtic until the end of the season, has proven so dangerous when picking the ball up in those positions after scoring a few superb goals for the Baggies.

Weimann was drafted into the starting lineup as Carlos Corberan probably looked to add more of a focal point to the attack following the injury crisis in the striker department.

West Brom attacker Mikey Johnston
Mikey Johnston discovered a new lease of life at West Brom last season.

But the Austrian certainly made it up to his teammate in the second half as he pulled a lovely ball back to Johnston before he found the back of the net to bring Albion level.

The two loanees have certainly had an impact since arriving in the January transfer window and they will be looking to continue putting in strong performances to potentially earn permanent deals at The Hawthorns in the summer.
