West Brom: Sky Sports pundit blasts Alex Palmer after what he did in win v Huddersfield
Andy Hinchcliffe has blasted Alex Palmer after he failed to keep out the Huddersfield Town goal against West Brom on Sunday (10 March).
Speaking on co-commentary on Sky Sports Football (12:31pm), the pundit said the 27-year-old made a “mess” of the situation as Delano Burgzorg’s strike went underneath him to put the Terriers ahead on 30 minutes.
He added that it was “poor” from the Albion keeper as he should have been looking to save the effort with his feet rather than his hands, but his side recovered from the setback in the second half as they secured a 4-1 victory at The John Smith’s Stadium.
“Alex Palmer makes a mess of this, it is a goalkeeping error for me,” said Hinchcliffe. “It just goes underneath the goalkeeper, he should be getting down, saving this and getting a foot on this, let alone a hand on it. It’s poor from the goalkeeper.”
Alex Palmer made up for West Brom error against Huddersfield
It isn’t a moment Palmer will look back at too fondly as the ball squirmed underneath him to hand Huddersfield the lead at half-time.
But the keeper more than made up for it in the second half as he pulled off a couple of excellent saves on the way to helping his side pick up a valuable three points.
One of those stops prevented the Baggies from going behind again following the equaliser when he made a strong block after Okay Yokuslu’s sloppy backpass found a Terriers forward.

The Englishman has had an excellent season for Albion after registering 15 clean sheets in 37 appearances.
He will no doubt be crucial in whatever Carlos Corberan’s side go on to achieve during this campaign as they look well-set to finish in the playoff places in their bid for promotion.
In other West Brom news, Corberan has raved about what a Baggies chief has done behind the scenes.
