West Brom will be among a number of EFL clubs who have been left "dismayed" after the Premier League's £900million support plan was delayed yet again.

The Times reported via their website on 12 March that the Premier League now face significant pressure after their clubs failed to secure backing for the deal at a two-hour meeting this week.

It is said that some EFL clubs are unhappy after, having agreed to present the deal by 11 March, no such deal was reached. One source went as far as to label the league "absolutely shambolic".

EFL clubs including West Brom could miss out on £900million

As shared by Sky News [20 February], EFL clubs looked set to receive a share of a heavy financial windfall after an energy meeting was called by the Premier League to thrash out the details.

However, with that meeting already having taken place and no agreement in sight over the financial support deal, which was set to cost Premier League clubs between £837million and £925million, pressure has ramped up on the league.

The deal was expected to be a landmark moment for relations between the Premier League and EFL, with clubs in the lower divisions set to benefit most, and it is likely them who have been left gutted by the recent development.

West Brom could be among those clubs. Despite their financial situation having improved after the takeover of Shilen Patel, the club still finds itself in a tricky position with regard to their wage bill and outgoing funds.

A share of the £900million windfall would have done wonders for the club, as well as many others across the EFL, and those criticising the Premier League for the lack of resolution are right to do so as greed, yet again, appears to have won in football.
