West Brom: FA charge emerges after crowd trouble in FA Cup showdown v Wolves

West Brom have been charged with misconduct by the FA following crowd trouble during their FA Cup Fourth Round showdown with Wolves at The Hawthorns.

The Governing body confirmed via its X account on Wednesday (13 March) that Ablion have been alleged to have failed to ensure that their spectators conducted themselves in an orderly fashion in January’s Black Country derby.

It has also been alleged that the Baggies failed to ensure that supporters refrained from throwing missiles and potentially harmful objects towards the pitch as Wolves ran out Wolves ran out 2-0 winners at The Hawthorns.

West Brom have until Wednesday 20 Match to respond to the FA’s charges before any potential punishment may be handed out.

The showdown between the two sides was marred in controversy when play was suspended for more than half an hour after crowd trouble in the stands spilled onto the playing field in the second half, following Matheus Cunha’s strike.

Will West Brom be punished for The Hawthorns crowd trouble against Wolves?

Most West Brom fans would have expected this charge to be handed out following the unsavoury scenes during January’s Black Country derby and perhaps the only surprise will be that it has taken this long for his to be handed out.

The footballing world was fairly united in its belief that the off-the-field events that happened in that clash at The Hawthorns were disgusting to see as fans acted like they did in the dark ages of English football.

It was especially distressing to see the likes of Kyle Bartley and Jed Wallace clearly concerned for their family’s safety, with the Albion defender going as far as to take his child out of the crowd and away from the incident.

Hopefully, that is the last supporters see of these sorts of incidents during West Brom matches as that sort of behaviour just isn’t acceptable in the modern game, whether it is a derby showdown or not.
