West Brom: Callum Marshall must prove Carlos Corberan wrong as international news emerges

West Brom will have plenty of international representation in the upcoming break, with loan ace Mikey Johnston and young star Tom Fellows among those called up by their respective nations.

The former has been selected by the Republic of Ireland, with the latter named in the England Men’s Elite squad.

But also called up by his nation is striker Callum Marshall, with Northern Ireland boss Michael O’Neill naming the West Ham loanee in his squad for the friendly clashes with Romania and Scotland [official Northern Ireland X account, 14 March].

The call-up comes despite a severe lack of minutes for the young forward at The Hawthorns, with Marshall not getting much action at all under Carlos Corberan since his loan switch in January.

He had been firing on all cylinders in the West Ham youth ranks, with the youngster rewarded with a big break to the Albion at the turn of the year.

But it hasn’t worked out for all the parties involved, with the player’s father even taking to social media to criticise his son’s situation at The Hawthorns.

Northern Ireland manager O’Neill has, however, kept the faith in the 19-year-old, who now has a superb chance to prove Corberan wrong on the international stage.

Experienced strikers Josh Magennis and Dion Charles have also been called up, but the manager is certain to turn to Marshall later this month, either from the start or from the bench.

A few top displays and a goal or two in particular would undoubtedly force Corberan into at least considering handing more minutes to his young loanee between now and the end of the season.
