West Brom: BBC journalist stunned live on air by what Albion players have done
Pat Murphy has been left stunned by the fact West Brom haven’t had a player sent off since October 2022.
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live before the game against Bristol City on Saturday (16 March, 02:43pm), the journalist said Albion average just 8.2 fouls per game this season.
He revealed that their red card record is the best in the Championship, having not had a player sent off since Kyle Bartley received his marching orders in a defeat against Millwall almost 18 months ago.
“One thing I’m particularly interested in for this game, West Brom average just 8.2 fouls per game this season,” said Murphy. “Not one player sent off since October 2022. The best record in this division.”
Impressive disciplinary record from West Brom
It’s an incredibly impressive disciplinary record from the Albion players to have gone so long without being reduced to 10 men.
That sending-off for Bartley came just after Steve Bruce had been sacked and was days before Carlos Corberan took over at The Hawthorns.
That means the Baggies haven’t had a single player sent off since the Spaniard took the reins, showing the discipline he’s instilled in his squad.

Ironically, that statistic doesn’t include the staff alongside the players as the Baggies manager was actually recently given a harsh red card in the defeat against Southampton on 16 February.
But he will be delighted with the way his players have conducted themselves on the pitch since he arrived at the club as it’s ensured the opposition hasn’t been handed an advantage in any of their games.
