West Brom: Jed Wallace reacts to Mikey Johnston and Tom Fellows displays v Bristol City

By Kris Boratyn

West Brom captain Jed Wallace has praised two key players following his side’s “crucial” victory against Bristol City at The Hawthorns on Saturday.

The winger, who scored the second goal in the Championship clash that finished 2-0, stressed the importance of securing the victory before the international break, marking the Baggies’ sixth unbeaten match in a row.

Reflecting on the game, Wallace highlighted the importance of timely goals, describing them as “two important goals at two important times”.

West Brom’s skipper also praised his team’s professionalism, particularly pointing out two great performances from Tom Fellows and Mikey Johnston.

Speaking to WBA TV after the match, Wallace said: “It was probably a game everyone expected us to win, but it was the epitome of professionalism from us today. From the first minute, the lads were bang on it.

“We scored two important goals at two important times. Tom (Fellows) got the first before the break and then I managed to get the second just after. I think those goals just settled us down and helped us get through the rest of the game.

“It was a tight first half, they were sat in their shape and it was difficult to break them down.

“Mikey Johnston got down the side a couple of times and got a few shots off, but it was great from Tom to come inside and put it in that bottom corner. It was the perfect time to score.

“The second goal came quickly in the second half and then we saw the game out.”

Can West Brom dream of Premier League promotion?

West Brom currently sit fifth in the Championship table, 15 points behind a promotion-guaranteeing spot.

While automatic promotion is out of the question, the Baggies will be hoping to reach the Premier League through the play-offs, if they manage to fend off teams like Hull City and Coventry.

The Birmingham-based side are unbeaten in their last six matches and will be confident going into their last eight games of the season.

While it is likely that they will secure a play-off place, the task of reaching England’s highest division could be slightly more difficult as they will likely have to fend off teams such as Southampton and Leeds.

The last time the Baggies faced the Saints, they succumbed to a 2-0 loss at The Hawthorns meaning that a potential encounter in the play-offs could end up in heartbreak.

The Baggies’ record against Leeds, on the other hand, is slightly better with West Brom winning their last clash with the Whites 1-0.

Nonetheless, West Brom fans are unlikely to pay much attention to previous results, knowing that anything can happen in the play-offs, which means we could see the Baggies back in the Premier League at the end of this season.
