West Brom: Tom Fellows sets standard for academy stars at The Hawthorns after England call
Tom Fellows has set the standard for emerging academy talents at The Hawthorns after his West Brom performances earned him a maiden England under-20 call-up.
He spoke to the Express & Star ahead of the 2-0 win against Bristol City [16 March] as he shared his pride and honour at earning an international call-up for the first time.
The current crop of academy youngsters will surely look to follow in the footsteps of the 20-year-old winger after his performances this season, with this the latest milestone.
Tom Fellows form for West Brom earns England U20 call-up
Fellows is having his breakthrough season under Corberan this year and has become somewhat of a mainstay in the first-team, with his goal against Bristol City making it four goals and three assists in the league this season.
Birmingham Live journalist Joe Chapman took to X [14 February] to share the boss’ praise of Fellows: “He’s a special talent. It’s important for the club to have young players with long contracts with us. We need to try to replicate it in more cases.”
Any player in the West Brom Academy who was looking to find their way into the first team in the coming months, even years, will have been inspired by the manager’s comment with a clear pathway becoming clear.

Fellows spent last season on loan at League Two side Crawley where he hardly impressed, not scoring a single goal and picking up just two assists in 39 games, so his emergence this season in the Championship has come as a shock.
It will also serve as hope to Baggies players currently on loan whether they have impressed or not, that if the pathway is there to make an impact on the first team at The Hawthorns, they will be afforded the chance in the future.
