West Brom: Academy stars could be set for step up after what Richard Beale revealed

West Brom Academy stars could be set for a step up to the first team after what Richard Beale and Carlos Corberan have admitted in recent weeks.

Beale, the under-21s boss at The Hawthorns, was full of praise for his side and their recent performances as he insisted they have put themselves into a good position to make progress.

This came ahead of their PL2 clash against Manchester United at The Hawthorns on 18 March as Beale hopes his side can continue their steady improvement until the end of the season.

“The U21 players are in a really good position,” Beale told the official West Brom website [17 March].

“They’re doing the basics well now, working at the level we want them to, showing good character in games, and no end of quality too.

“We’re really happy with where they’re at right now and the last three or four matches have been excellent and that’s not just on the eye, because the running stats have backed that up with how intensely the lads have been playing.”

Could West Brom see a new influx of academy stars at The Hawthorns?

The game against Manchester United on Monday night will give the under-21s players a chance to feel what it is like to play at the club’s home stadium and should provide inspiration for what they hope to achieve in the future.

If they can follow in the footsteps of the likes of Tom Fellows who has seen a remarkable rise into the first team under Corberan as he scored yet again in the 2-0 win against Bristol City at The Hawthorns on 16 March.

Fellows’ fantastic form since taking that step up has now earned him an England under-20 call-up for the first time as he continues to make progress in what has been a stunning breakthrough season for the 20-year-old.

Carlos Corberan has been praised for the job he’s done at West Brom

Corberan has recently discussed his view for the club which would see players from the academy make the step up and prove themselves under him, which also will provide an added boost to the aspiring young stars.
